Laboratory Learning Spaces

The results of the collaborative work with the Basel-based architectural firm Schröer-Sell were documented in a publication in 2022. In addition to extensive visual material—including images of the “Lernoullianum” and “Verso” projects, the pilot lecture halls and seminar rooms in the Kollegienhaus (main building) and the “learning landscape” in the University Library—articles and interviews shed light on the history of the campus and the background of current developments.

The full text of the publication is available online at https://emono.unibas.ch/emono/catalog/book/73.

At the book launch, students shared their thoughts in a short video report, offering brief insights into their learning experiences at the Lernoullianum and in the newly designed learning landscape at the University Library.

The ITSI Project: Toward the Campus of Tomorrow

The groundwork for intensive work on the teaching and learning environment was laid at the University of Basel as early as 2012 with a multi-phase project titled "IT Service Integration in Teaching and Learning (ITSI)." With the participation of over 100 colleagues from across the university, including faculty, students, and administrative staff at all hierarchical levels—from building superintendents to the Rector’s Office—a vision of the “campus of tomorrow” emerged. These discussions led to numerous projects, including the establishment of the Learning Spaces Working Group. A comprehensive Publikation was released on the project (in German).

A summary in English - with a focus on libraries - has been released in the New Library World journal. The article is available online:
